I've just noticed your thread on Find Ancestors. Maye it would be better to stick with that one so all your info is in one place and save members looking for records that have already been found?
Good luck with your search.

Know definitely mother was Kathleen Brenda Daunders sept 1914 because we found her. She rejected us though. After she died her family got in touch so we have had snippets of info but no actual facts. There might not be siblings at all so it’s all here say. There’s a few male names, Brian and Ian are possibilities. and she marries in 1946 so would have been between 1942 and 1946. She returned to wales in 1945 and it was thought she had given birth just prior to this. X

Thank you so much everyone. I realised it was a death I was looking at eventually. New to this and doesn’t take much to be confused. Thanks so much for the link though so much easier to find Saunders with mother’s not married at the time.
Thanks again

There are various situations when a GRO birth certificate may be changed. The most common is a proven change of paternity details when a new birth cert. will be issued with the updated surname. However date and place of birth will be unchanged. When this happens the orig. record remains on GRO records but cannot be used for such purposes as passports as it is "flagged".

Kerry, where are you seeing this transcript?
Could it be an error? What does it state on the image?

I'm only finding one Keith Saunders, birth registered 1944, Devon on FMP. Registered in Exeter, mmn Bulpitt. No South Hams.

I think you need to delete the birth date for privacy reasons

Kerry Report 10 Aug 2018 10:46

On the transcript it has Keith birth year 1944 South hams Devon but on the same transcript the year is stated 1998. He was born 20/5/1944

Sorry am I reading this correctly?
"I am looking for a Keith Saunders born in 1944 more likely in Devon. I have found one and the year is stated as 1998. It is possible that this Keith was adopted..."

Surely this is two different people?

If mothers 'maiden name' is not recorded it usually means that she wasn't married and the given surname is her own.

Apologies if I have got this wrong.

Have you been able to track down a marriage? If not, then you’d need to look for a birth reg Saunders mother’s maiden name Saunders.

The only Keith I can see was born 1945 in Basford reg district which is rather removed from West Country.

Have you sent for the certificate for the one you’ve found? As it’ll list his mother’s name, it’ll either confirm or disprove your suspicions.

Kerry Report 10 Aug 2018 10:20

See the one I am looking for doesn’t state the mother’s name. Just Soouth Hams Devon. Which doesn’t come up on the link you put on at all. Hence why I am so confused ??

Kerry Report 10 Aug 2018 10:08

No if I am correct then his birth mother was KATHLEEN Brenda Saunders born in 1914 in Wales and was a sick nurse in kingsbridge/Plymouth around 1939. She had my mum in 1942 and placed her in an ophansge in kingsbridge. Many years later my mum met the lady who worked in the orphanage and was told that Kathleen had had another baby and was sure it was a boy. I have narrowed down I believe all the boy Saunders born after and the only one I can’t get a trail for is Keith. I could be totally off track. We know she moved around and certainly got around ?? by all accounts! Xx

Using Freebmd, there are 2 possibilities.
First quarter Exeter & 4th quarter Bristol.

Not posting the details as he may still be living. Check here

Sounds odd. If Keith was adopted into the family, you won’t find him under that name on the normal register.

What was his mother’s maiden name? We might be able to find it fior you. Although many evacuees had returned home by 1944, it’s always possible an expectant mother was moved away from an air raid target. In addition, a child born at the end of one year could be registered at the beginning of the next. Have you tried looking in the first quarter of 1945.

Although ‘late’ registration do occur, it’s highly unlikely the 1998 one is his. He would have had to be registered to receive a ration book.

Good morning can I ask why when viewing a record transcription why would the year be different to the year of birth for some of them?
I am looking for a Keith Saunders born in 1944 more likely in Devon. I have found one and the year is stated as 1998. It is possible that this Keith was adopted therefore would have had a name change or maybe he never was. It feels like I am looking for something smaller then a pin in a haystack ??
Thanks in advance
