The Mind Boggles

While all is quiet here on the eastern front, I am having an hour or so to myself before people stir.

Flipping through one of the magazines I buy for summer hols, I came across the following opening to an article.

'If you are heading out fishing, take a tub of tigers' milk.'

My mind ran riot - things like, when you catch your tiger, how the heck do you keep it still long enough to milk it? Or, is tigers' milk white or striped - you know the sort of things you get into your mind when you let it loose!

Those foodies who may be reading this will guess I'm not one of them even though my claim to fame is that I make the best pavlova I've ever tasted!

I digress.

Only when I read on did I realise tigers' milk was not that all, but a concoction of lime, chillis etc. and I realised I have had it with fish in a much-enjoyed village restaurant in SW France - Ceviche - but never knew the name of the 'sauce' was tigers' milk.

Tigers' milk - intriguing! I am a butter and lemon person when cooking fish but I wonder where the name came from? Someone who wanted to put a kick into fish?

Sounds weird & certainly not to my taste. Apparently it’s based on a Peruvian sauce know as Leche de Tigre, which is French. Does Peru have native tigers? :-S
