oh, those English names that no longer exist!!

Lots of my maternal relations apparently lived at Lyon Dam, Oldham

Got my maternal gt grandfather's death certificate. Place of death: Lyon Dam. He was at least the 3rd generation that I'd found with that address.

I grew up in Oldham. Never heard of Lyon Dam. It isn't on any modern maps.

Turns out it was on the outskirts of Oldham, near the one-time village that we moved to when I was 11.

I still don't know where it might have been.

Doubt my mother did either!

Delight Rows (How Lovely! :-D ) Was where Elizabeth aka Betsy..and children William, Henry and Celia Bell were living on the 1881 census. I am sure you know that already.

I have checked out the FamilySearch site thank you Kense.

Well, i have been a busy bee.

Chris.....Celia Bell and her mother Betsey aka Elizabeth's deaths were both registered in the 3rd quarter of 1890 Lanchester, Durham.

Father William died 23rd July 1880...Death also registered in Lanchester, Durham.

I have been on the Web: Global, Gravestone, Photograph Index and found a beautiful gravestone for the three of them buried together.

I requested a larger image and it was sent to me immediately.

Elizabeth died 19th Sep.....Celia died 27th July

I agree with Sue......It never ceases to amaze me the amount of information that Chris manages to find. She has come up with lots of weird and wonderful information regarding my family in the past and always points me in the right direction.

If i had taken on board her usual advice, i would have checked out FreeReg before ordering a copy of Philippa's birth cert and saved myself £6.

But hey, ho.......i got over excited and just ordered it anyway. :-D

My great-grandmother was baptized Sally. She married my great-grandfather as Sally and she was buried as Sally.

After my great-grandfather died, she remarried as Sarah. I think the vicar probably decided that Sally was not an appropriate name for reasons best known to himself so decided she was a Sarah.
