So Donald Trump has suggested that teachers should be armed.

That will keep the little buggers in order!

I thought that this was really a top drawer idiotic idea made all the worse 'cos Trump and his NRA friends actually believe in it.

How much does it take to send for the men in white coats?

I particularly liked this teacher's response:

As a teacher I knocked myself out headbutting the ceiling
pretending to be a particle, star jumping off a desk.

I’ve set my arm on fire when lit ethanol trickled down my sleeve, from my hand.

I’ve burnt my ear listening to see if gas was coming out of a Bunsen.

Please don’t give me a gun.

A gun amnesty - I suppose Americans would consider this idea to be truly idiotic.

They may well be correct! But what would make America a better place

Atrocities are still part of everyday life in many countries.

Arm the teachers and the next crazy shooter will take out the teacher first.

He is truly barmy - could be dangerous though.

Now trying to deflect from the support he receives from the NRA, he has started on the policeman who did not enter the building. He could have been told to wait for back-up.

Trump: 'I would have gone in.'

Yeh, right!

Remind me about his national service again .....

Armed massacres of students and school children are not a constant threat in any democracy except for the United States and possibly Norway.

The UK had two serious incidents, one at Hungerford in Berkshire and the other at Dunblane in Scotland. Maybe Trump should seek Andrew Murray's thoughts on the Dunblane event.

The response of the government (all parties) was pretty stark. The right to legally hold automatic, semi automatic guns and pistols of any shape or size was removed. No exceptions except of course for the police and armed forces. Since then there have been bad events but no more massacres by gunfire.

Many police consider the right to have deactivated "collector" weapons a mistake as they are now a major source of supply for UK gun crime.

How many of even our most fluffy brained right wing Tory politicians (or even UKIP) are screaming out that UK democracy has been destroyed as people cannot hold weapons other than for hunting and vermin control? None.

They're now saying four deputies waited outside while the shooting was going on. Were they following instructions?...time will tell.

A hand gun (well, okay, 4 hand guns) versus a semi-automatic.
Would they have had any chance of bringing him down?

Probably not.

Caroline

Caroline Report 27 Feb 2018 13:46

Short of a miracle probably not.

Sharron

Sharron Report 27 Feb 2018 14:14

Donald Trump could have done it with no gun at all.

Possible too!

There you are, spraying bullets about in a random fashion and your eye catches that hair. Of course you would lose your concentration for a moment and want to get a closer look and, voila, somebody will have disarmed you.

A man who evaded the draft for having sore feet is hardly the type to rush into a school where an armed man is shooting guns.

To a British mind it seems quite extraordinary to have an armed guard at a school anyway.
