One of our old biddies was married to a gypsy. She still lives in a static caravan in their yard and goes to stay with her daughter most weekends. The daughter also has a yard and her two sons live with their wives and families in mobile homes there.

They were all together for Christmas with the daughter's mother-in-law who died, at the age of ninety-seven, two days later.

Our biddy's grandsons keep animals in several places, including some pigs in her yard and they were having to visit every day and, because the children were being taken care of, their wives went too.

Because of family upheavals with the death and also, they said, because the pigs had got out and caused some problem with the water supply, our biddy needed to stay with her daughter longer than she had expected and when she was finally brought home she was most surprised to find that the gates of her yard had been removed and that she had been lied to.

The pigs had not been out at all. What had happened was that the grandsons and wives had been to her yard, emptied everything she owned into their touring caravan, hauled her static van across the yard and replaced it with a much newer van which they had cleaned and re-filled with all her possessions.

She was well chuffed!
