Yes I thought it was and she was a liar and couldn't be trusted.
I didn't want to meet her before I knew her age because she was very pushy and that is with or without her parents.

It is not only members / free members / lapsed members who can read the posts on GR threads ................

non-members can also read the posts, and some of us believe that non-members can also RR posts.

In addition, any post can be found on Google and read by anyone searching the internet ....... if genealogy posts can be searched for and found, I assume that jokes can also be searched for, clean or dirty.

But in that case
I would of suggested the child meet you with its parent or parents present

I have helped youngsters start their trees on other sites
and always with the parents consent
and never had a problem

I recently met an adult from GR she needed help
she came to Middlebrough
and I insisted she gave her sister
my name address and phone number before she came :-)

I don't know if Guin is telling you about the same person but here is my story.
A woman joined and said on general that she was married and had twins and a good job.
I found out we were related and told here how we were related.She then kept wanting to meet up with me.I then found out she was a child and I was scared that a little girl was wanting to meet me.I thought what if her family found out because if she was my child I would come and punch my face in because I would think I was a weirdo.
The little girl would'nt give in wanting to meet me and some kind members on here told her to back off.
Her subs were being paid by her grandmother.

I've always found I could sometimes learn from a newbie
no matter what their ages or how long they have been doing their tree
we all stumble on interesting sites that could benefit others
sometimes by accident

even the most experienced Genealogist would admit this

Funnily enough I found some census information on the girl's family name that I got for her when I was tidying up all the old gumf I have saved on this PC.

I don't remember her being jumped on so we are obviously remembering different people. I do remember an autistic young man getting grief because he was asking people to buy certificates for him, he didn't realise it wasn't the polite thing to do.

We get all sorts here. Maybe even swearing vicars.

The person who I am speaking about was 11. Her grandmother had paid for her to join.

I'm guessing that the minimum age could have changed since GC told us it was 13, there have been a lot of changes over the years.

GR doesn't ask for proof of age when you register and as long as you have access to a credit card you can be any age.

Young people can be interested in genealogy, some schools do family trees as a topic.

Whatever the minimum age now, anyone of any age can read the boards, which is why it would be nice not to have unfunny smut on them.

Seems rude to name call people, as soon as you resort to that you've lost the argument.

I was told by GR that the lower age limit is 18.

That aside, I found it laughable that kids would bother with a load of old f*rties on a genealogy website, on the off chance that there is a naughty joke, when there are plenty of free and easy to access sites with wall to wall jokes without even having to register.

No idea, Bob. I know former members still read, though, because I've spoken to some.

I remember the young lady joining up when she was underage but I thought that was a one-off........
