WALES v IRELAND
This afternoon. Kick-Off 2.30pm.

Wales take on Ireland at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff today, in the first of their Rugby World Cup Warm-Up games.

It’s a very important game today, Rugby Fans.
With just 41 days to go to the World Cup Proper, NO ONE IS VIEWING THIS MATCH AS A “FRIENDLY”!

When our Wales Players walk out onto that field, each of them know that they are FIGHTING FOR THEIR WORLD CUP PLACE! It is crucial that each play to their very best ability and shine, because Warren Gatland has the unenviable task of “CULLING” his squad down from it’s present BIG 46.

He will want to cut 8 or 10 players from his squad, before the return match against Ireland in Dublin, in 3 week’s time.

Because of the pace of the World Cup Tournament, with fixtures coming thick and fast, Warren will not be able to play the same boys, match on match. So he will be looking for 2 TEAMS OF PLAYERS he can trust to perform at Test Level.

This, of course, will also be true of the IRELAND CAMP.
Joe Schmidt will have the same problem- who to take and who to drop. His boys
will also be fighting for their positions!

ALL PLAYERS KNOW TODAY IS CRUCIAL!

Whether they are young and fit, or slightly older with experience, ALL need to step up today!

ALLAN KEEP GARGLING! ;-) :-D :-D

Good Morning Ann <3
Get the RED ready! ;-)

noooooo ALLAN I meant a red outfit ... tuts.. ;-) :-D :-D

Ann,
It's closed because Joe Schmidt wanted it closed to mimic the conditions of the World Cup proper. It will be closed for the duration of the World Cup apparently.

Both sides need to agree for the roof to be closed. The Wales camp were initially annoyed, as Ireland refused to have the roof closed during the Six Nations. But when the reason was explained, the Wales camp agreed.

PatinCyprus Report 8 Aug 2015 08:53

Our phone rings and someone wants to speak to OH and I know it's a computer problem as I get asked everything else :-S.

Well last night I asked him about the rugby being only on Welsh TV - well here's the answer, see OHs do come in useful sometimes ;-). I will PM Shaun to make sure he has it.

open browser

go to: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer

two thirds of the way down the window, at the left, you'll see "Change location:". Click on the current location (possibly 'West')(yours may be different as this for Shaun) then select 'Wales'.

at the top of the page click on 'Channels' and select "one". Just below that click 'WATCH LIVE', then once you have the picture click the full screen symbol.

Good luck!

JemimaFawr Report 7 Aug 2015 20:52

SHOCK! HORROR!

If anyone is looking in on the Rugby Thread...

Will you please check your channels for where you live

And if possible let me know!

I AM WORRIED THAT THE MATCH IS ONLY ON BBC1 WALES!
(as part of SCRUM V)

If you have SKY TV you can access BBC1 Wales.
THE BBC 1 REGIONAL CHANNELS START FROM 951 TO 961

Start at 951 and scroll down until you find BBC1 WALES.

BT or VIRGIN may also have BBC1 WALES if you have a TV package with them.

IT IS ALSO ON BBC RADIO WALES

I have amended previous posts accordingly.

Can I have a show of hands please if you are able to get the match tomorrow?

AND HERE IT IS! ;-) ;-) :-D :-D :-D

THE WELSH NATIONAL ANTHEM

MAE HEN WLAD FY NHADAU WITH ENGLISH PHONETICS!

:-D :-D :-D

How to sing the words to the Welsh National Anthem phonetically (if it were English)

MAE HEN WLAD FY NHADAU

The top line of every sentence is in Welsh.
The line underneath each Welsh sentence is in English Phonetics.

I have found it necessary to split various Welsh words up for easier pronunciation. When that has been done, each word will be hyphenated together making one complete word.
Then each complete word is separated with a comma.

Welsh: Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Phonetic: My, hair-n, w-lard, vur (as in english- fur but with v sound), n-had-eye, un, an-ooyl, ee, me,

Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Goo-lard, by-rrr-th, ah, ch-ant-orrr-ee-on, en-wog-ee-on, or, vree,

Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mad,
Eye, goo-rol, rrr-uh-vel-wirrr, goo-lad-gahrr-wirr, trah, mard,

Dros ryddid collasant eu gwaed
Dross, rruh-thid, co-LL-ass-ant, eye, goo-w-eyed (don’t forget the Welsh LL sound in collasant)

Cytgan (Kit-garn) / Chorus
Gwlad, gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm wlad.
Goo-lard, Goo-lard, ply-dee-ol, ooy-v, ee’m, goo-lard,

Tra môr yn fur, i'r bur hoff bau,
Trah, more (but rolled rrr), un, vee-rrr, ee-rrr, bee-rrr, h-or-ff, bye,

O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau.
Or, buh-thed, ee’rrr, h-air-n, ee-eye-th (soft th as in thin), bah-rrr-high.

AND THERE YOU GO!;-) ;-)

So now you need to practice!! :-D

In readiness for the singing of the Welsh National Anthem! :-D :-D

ALL HONORARY WELSHMEN & WOMEN
(This is an honour I bestow on all Wales' Non-Welsh friends who cheer on the Welsh Team) ;-) ;-) :-D :-D...

.... need to learn how to pronounce Welsh Words!

SO FIRST...
..... SOME WELSH LANGUAGE RULES! ;-)

Welsh Letters:

The Welsh DD sounds like an English TH (as in THE not as in thin)

The Welsh TH is soft sounding like an English TH as used in THIN

The Welsh F sounds like an English V (there’s no V in the Welsh Alphabet)

The Welsh FF sounds like an English F

Rs must be ROLLED .. rrrrrrr

Rh is similar rrrrrrh- Rolled but slightly softer with a huh sound at the end!

The Welsh CH is the same sound as in the Scottish LOCH

THE FAMOUS WELSH LL! :-0 :-0
You have probably heard it used many times but may not know how to do it yourself.

It’s easy when you know how...
Try and "hear" a word with it in, in your mind first.
For Example “LLAN” (which is used as the first part of many Welsh places)

Press your tongue gently behind your top front teeth, and as you try to say LL in the word, blow gently! Practise and you will soon be able to do it!

Before long you will be able to say
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch :-D :-D :-D :-D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJXj86ZckQg

YOUR NEXT WELSH LESSON...

I will be endeavouring to post an English- sounding phonetic spelling of the Welsh National Anthem "MAE HEN WLAD FY NHADAU""

Watch this space ;-) ;-) :-D :-D :-D :-D
