Food and lots of it! LOL

Going to my sister's, along with one of my daughters, and her 3 children, daughters daughter, son and partner, and their 2 children - oh and my ex!! That makes 12.
I believe we're having lamb, with roast & dauphinois potatoes, and roast veggies. Everyone is bringing a dessert - but I'm taking a cheeseboard.
I think Santa may be there, with presents for the children. :-D

Oh!"We have the standard meal
prawn cocktail or h/made soup
Turkey / Gammon
sage & onion stuffing
roast pots / mash
pigs in blankets
fried brussels and bacon
mixture of veg
Yorkshire puds
turkey gravey
and desert - whatever daughter brings over her surprise
wine then coffee and Christmas cake (if we feel like it)

and my best bit is the soup is in the freezer and the roast pots have been half done and frozen too and a selection of cakes are also frozen . Think thats all :-S

We steamed the puddings for four hours today, another four tomorrow, then three more on the day.

So we will be having that then and I have made some cranberry sauce, oh so much cranberry sauce. There will be a dollop of that.

There is a Christmas cake too.

Whether we have anything else remains to be seen.

I do need to buy a sack of spuds. If I don't, they won't feature anywhere.

What OH chooses to cook otherwise is as big a surprise to me as it is to everybody else.

We have our main meal on Christmas eve.....

Turkey with the usual trimmings (& special stuffing, no breadcrumbs in it), not sure if we'll have pud.

Christmas day we graze......... turkey, ham & salads..... and lots of naps!

I love making parsley and thyme stuffing - prefer it to the turkey actually, and it's so easy to make

Kitty - I always do packet stuffing too as I can't seem to make mine remotely digestible, just the 2 of us this year so I may give it a miss altogether.

Up here we do the whole thing so:
Starter- Smoked salmon and prawn cocktail, brown bread and butter triangles or melon cocktail
main- Roast Capon
roast pots
mashed pots
yorkshire puddings
swede, carrots, sprouts and peas
sage and onion stuffing
pigs in blankets
onion gravy
cauliflower in cheese sauce(especially for hubby and MIL)
Pudding- xmas pudding
evapourated milk
cream
or
fresh fruit salad
Coffee and mints

All washed down with some bubbly!

I always cook capon on xmas eve and that frees up the oven for all the other things to cook on xmas day.

my best part of the dinner is the xmas pud!

The only reason I will be cooking all that lot above.

Is just in case the older lady's(next door) daughter doesn't take her to her house over Christmas.
Then I know she will be having a hot meal on Christmas day.

Now ......having consulted Mary Berry and the family, we are having turkey, paxo stuffing, knorr bread sauce, bisto gravy, a jar of cranberry sauce, with a huge assortment of allotment veg and roast potatoes.

Oh and pigs in blankets.............butchers chipolatoes and bacon.

Followed by Christmas pud with homemade brandy butter.

Rennies optional.

I have tried and failed to make my own bread sauce and stuffing, they all prefer packet, so that is the menu.

It's Ice cream christmas pud,,not heavy.best is I can freeze it a month before which I have already done.

According to Mary Berry you can freeze Red Cabbage 3 weeks before Christmas.

dunno - daughter in law is cooking - I'll be making the stuffing and the trifle - I'm also going to make a red cabbage dish with chestnuts - d'you think if I make it now it'll be OK to freeze?

We dont have a starter and I havent decided the other bits but I like it to be colour cordianated :-D

Coffee and nicotine
then sometime after 6pm depending on when OH gets home we will have duck with the trimmings
to finish will be more coffee and nicotine

I would die if I ate all that :-(

Sounds lovely though, apart from the pate and Xmas pud which I don't like!

Cheese and Biscuits.
Then coffee and Brandy.
