I work for a government agency and a few years ago there was a missive came around suggesting that perhaps we shouldn't put our office Christmas decorations up in case it offended any of our non Christian colleagues.

There was a major hue and cry about this directive, the major dissenters being the non christian colleagues! Needless to say common sense prevailed and the usual tat that we wouldn't have at home soon graced the offices.

(And just in case anyone thinks taxpayers money funded that tat we do have a whip round from our own pockets).

:-D SilviainCanada .... my local 'high street' is the same regarding food outlets ! There is probably 6 or more different different choices of ethnic food!

To me those that try to be so pc are doing a great disservice to society and are being totally divisive to multi ethnic communities.

My experience of living and working amongst people. whatever their beliefs, is that all we want or can hope for is a life of peace and tranquility :-)

I agree ............... I doubt that there is a place that is much more multi-cultural than Vancouver. At one time, it was claimed that we had a restaurant or cafe representing every ethnic taste on earth!

It's the schools and institutions that have been trying to make Happy Holidays or Seasons Greetings the "acceptable" greeting that bother me.

I live in London which is totally multi-ethnic/religious ...

I have a Muslim neighbour and was delighted when I first received a Christmas card from them many years ago with such sincere wishes. Since then we have always exchanged cards and small gifts of chocolate or sweets.......

We both respect our own beliefs, to the extent that I have also been invited to the weddings of the son and daughters of the family. :-)

Wishing someone Happy Christmas to me is just a seasonal greeting and having worked and lived with Jewish people over the years it has always been reciprocated in the same way. :-)

a newspaper article by a columnist who expresses what I've always felt about saying Merry Christmas, especially the last 2 paragraphs ...........

"Just as we are welcomed by Sikhs to Diwali parades, by Chinese-Canadians to New Year’s lion dances and feasts, by Muslims to Eid al-Fitr, or by Jews to the lighting of the menorah, we ought to be inclusive in our celebration of Christmas.

Tolerance isn’t just about being accepting of minorities and respectful of their traditions, it also means that we don’t need to apologize for our own .............."
