Christmas card alternative

On the morning of Christmas Eve 1982 a friend/workmate of mine gave me a piece of paper with a poem written on it. Sadly that same evening my friend, John, who was only 50 years old, suffered his third heart attack and died. I have never forgotten John or the poem which is below:

Christmas is here and times are hard
So I'm sending you this paper instead of a card.
I think that cards are a bit of a farce
At least with some paper you can wipe your ....

Sad that your friend died so young - but I did enjoy the poem :-D
