Warning of Strong Winds & Flooding - Issued by The Met Office at 11:23am on Wed 04/12/2013

Westerly gales are expected to spread southwards across northern and central areas of the UK on Thursday, with widespread gusts of 60 to 70 mph. However in the worst affected areas gusts are expected to reach 80 mph in places and perhaps as high as 90 mph in exposed parts of the north and west of Scotland.

Winds will veer northwesterly and begin to ease during the afternoon, with the strongest winds becoming confined to eastern coastal areas by the evening.

There is also the potential for significant coastal flooding along the East Coast of England, parts of southeast Scotland, north Wales and northwest England. This may include flooding affecting parts of coastal communities and travel disruption along coastal routes.

The public should be prepared for the potential for significant disruption.

Watching some of the news reports it is obviously been very wild weather up home in Scotland, just hoping my nieces in Fife are staying safe and not going out unless absolutely necessary.

I hope things calm down soon - until then stay safe everyone <3

Here, Argyll, we have very strong winds and I have spent the morning, between driving snow showers, picking up the fence panels and eyeing the missing roof tiles!!

I had very little sleep, because of the noise of the wind, but as we had no power I stayed in bed late as it was warm.

Power now back on and the wind is, hopefully, calming down a bit. At least the sea is no longer breaking over the road outside the gate!!

In Aberdeen the snow we had has now turned to ice.
Treacherous under foot and still very windy.

Glad to say the winds have eased here today & thankfully no damage as far as we can see, it's very cold & we have a covering of snow, but for all we just have a "covering" of snow when hubby went down to house road this morning he couldn't turn right onto the main road because of a snowdrift!
He had to go left & turn round at the next junction & then come back at the drift managing to get by by keeping to the left of it & going onto the grass verge, the drift was across a main A road, the snow having blown off the fields.

When he returned from the village he couldn't get into our road end because someone working with a digger was shifting the drift of snow, so he turned round went back to the village & parked up at the local garage,he waited for about 20mins then tried for home again, the digger was by now away & hubby managed to get back home.

Not looking forward to the coming weeks when we might get a LOT of snow, I really don't like being blocked in!

Joan.
