You will do better on the Genealogy or Find Ancestors Boards.
This one is for eBay beginners, desert island disks and such.
OTOH hang around and see what the returned are hanging out. ;-)

Hi Claire, welcome to the boards.

How far have you got with your research?

There are a number of free sites to do look ups. http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

Welcome to the Boards.

As always, start with what you know as the absolute truth.
Assuming they are alive, ask to see your parents marriage certificate and their full birth certificates.
Talk to elderly relatives and make a note of what they have to say....then check for records to verify the names, places etc.

Although there are many sources free on-line, at some point you will need to spend some money.

Have a browse of the various threads usually at the top of Find Ancestors and Genealogy chat.

Here's one to get you started

Genes have published a 'getting started' list which is worth a read.

Most of all, enjoy this fascinating (addictive?) hobby!

OTHO - on the other hand.

Other abbreviations you might come across
BC - birth certifiicates
MC - marriage certificates
DC - (go, on have a guess ;-))
BMD - birth marriage and death
Bap - baptism
Bur - burial
GR - Genesreunited - A couple of people refer to this site as GRU
Gro - General Register Office - the only place to buy BMD
FMP - Find My Past

Although those are the ones which immediately come to mind, there are loads of others.

As long as the duplicate person has no children, it ought to be fairly easy to delete them.
Click on the named person's box.
Under the basic details (name, birth, death) are 3 small boxes - click on the 'delete' one.
If they have children attached, you do have to delete all of them starting with the most recent generation.

If you get stuck, you might have to ask Support to do it for you.

Not sure why you have people in your 'List' who are not in your tree. Have you refreshed/reloaded the List after deleting someone?

If no one can give you a work-around, then ask GR.

Have you tried the other Tree Views? When you select your tree the view that comes up is typically your generation and parents.

If you select Ancestors or Pedigree do you see your grandparents displayed?
