A common mistake David and one that happens all th time on here,,,,,,,

and the adviser to the DOB,,,,,thats their normal response !,full of good manners and a smiley face and holds no official post on GR. :-D

The David Allen in question is hopefully still living and going by that name. As responsible GR members we do have a 'duty of care' not to give personal information on an open board which could lead to identity theft. Not everyone would be happy to have such information available on an internet search

One could perhaps get away with it if you were looking for a person who had been adopted at birth and whose birth name would have been changed. Some members might prefer only the month, year of birth and town to be given.

And no, I wasn't responsible of the Report for Review.

In addition, it is against GR's own T&C to post such personal details
" We advise that you never reveal via the Genes Reunited Service any personal information about yourself or anyone else (for example: telephone numbers, home addresses or email addresses) [or their full d.o.b] which you [or they] do not want to be visible to third parties."

One of the reasons for reporting a post is 'Data Protection' into which category this falls.

It was a pity that you weren't able to return to the thread until today. If you had, you'd probably had the opportunity to edit the opening post

Got a problem as sometimes you mention on a post what is wrong with it and suggest it should be edited.

You then send a pm to the OP which sometimes gets opened but still they do not go back and edit their post. Left with no other option then to send it for review.

Just how long should an email addy, phone number, address or date of birth etc be left showing on this site when the thread can be found by anyone when the details are googled..

Steve I have just read the thread you posted and I quite agree that the poster who probably reported you could have informed you of their intentions in a far more curteous manner. Also they could have given you the chance to edit your opening post

Hello, yes the person is possibly still alive.

Also the reporter just said " remove the DOB or I will report you". Quite blunt I thought. If I had known this was wrong, or the reporter had explained maybe, I wouldn't have put the DOB. As it stands I didn't even get a chance to remove it.

Every days a school day I guess :-) learnt some thing today :-)

Hi Steve...........the year of birth you sometimes get away with.......but the actual full date of birth of a living person on an open forum like this, for obvious reasons, is a no no.

It's a shame you weren't given the chance to edit your post before it was reported.

GR might edit your post and repost it.

Has the reporter explained why - or suggested why you ought to edit your post?

Hi Steve - was it the DOB of a living person? if so, that is why it was removed

Could some one please explain to me why putting a DOB in a trying to find a living person post, be the cause of some one reporting me and my post being withdrawn.
