It's a good thing I am mildly intelligent and a bit confident or my poor old dad would have been let in his chair all night I think.

The care company were not allowed to use the mechanical hoist again because he had not been "assessed" for it. Social Services said he had to stay in bed and use his incontinence pad as he could not be hoisted to the commode. He has total control of his bowels and this, which he was eventually forced to do was demeaning in the extreme.

The engineers finally turned up at 3pm, twenty-four hours after I called them and the job took ten minutes using a piece of my gaffer tape.

Fred was up at four- thirty and washing his Kylie in the machine. Then he had to do his poking about by the sink bit which meant that tea was well over- cooked because I felt it more important that he get on with what he normally does than that tea should be perfect. He ate it anyway!

When the bathroom warms up a bit I am off in there for a good long soak.

That's disgraceful, Sharron, glad you got something sorted in the end but it's so wrong that no one from the hire company came out to you quickly.

Good thing it's not Sausage Sandwich day today!

That is disgusting, Sharron.
If the electrical box isn't 'theirs' I'd be interested to know whose it is, and how the equipment would work if 'they' didn't provide the box!! :-|

Let's hope they turn up early tomorrow, or Fred could have an unwelcome 'lie in'.

It is eleven o'clock and we have just gone to bed.

At three, when we came home from the village lunch, there one of the electric circuits was out, the one that powers the hoist and the bed.

Because we have had the hoist a long time we know all the procedures to go through when it is off so we went through them, Everything else would go back on but not the hoist. It turned out that the box that the wire runs from has been caught under the bed and broken from the wall so I rang the equipment hire company.

They insisted on talking me through all the procedures twice and then denied the electrical box was theirs, which it is. I said I thought I would need an electrician and was told a hoist engineer would be out to me before eight o'clock.

Fred resigned himself to not having a rest this afternoon and I rang the carers to tell them he would have to be put to bed later tonight, it usually at about six thirty.

The carers turned up just after eight and had to go again because we had no hoist and when I rang the out of hours equipment service I was promised an engineer tonight.

By nine thirty they still had not come so I rang the care agency. The proprietor had to come out with the manual hoist from their training room which her husband had had to bring in his van.

Fred finally got to use the commode and went to bed at ten thirty. I have still not had an engineer call.
