This is in today's Northumberland Gazette which may be of interest to any of you with ancestors north of the Tyne

One of the innovations in the all-new Bailiffgate Museum, re-opening in February 2014, will be an area dedicated to family history.

In conjunction with this, the museum is becoming the location of a new official Alnwick Branch of the Northumberland and Durham Family History Society. Members of the Family History Society enjoy a range of benefits to help them discover more about their ancestors and hence who they really are. This includes a wide range of excellent speakers on family history-related topics at monthly meetings which will be held at the Bailiffgate Museum. There is also a quarterly magazine and free use of the extensive library of books, periodicals, microfiches etc. in the4 Family History Society offices in Newcastle.

Bailiffgate Museum is also considering holding drop-in sessions on a regular basis for those interested in tracing their own family history. These could include access to online record facilities with guidance available.

All these issues will be discussed at an informal meeting on Wednesday December 4th, from 7.30 pm at St. James' Hall, Alnwick.

If you are interested in family history, the new Alnwick Branch would love to hear from you. Email [email protected] , ring 01665 604502 or go to the St. James' Hall meeting.
