I didn't like the new style Fiesta we had as a courtesy car recently, it was a nice smooth ride but hard to judge the front distance etc when parking. I much prefer our little old 2002 model, and am happy with the one we found to replace our written off one. It feels almost the same as driving the old one.

I wouldn't want to reverse into a garage tho, I hate reversing altho I can do it, but not into a narrow space like that. Luckily o.h. has a drive at the side of the house and the car has never seen the inside of the garage, he has too much of his stuff in there lol

Take care Shirley

Thanks Rollo your observations are so spot on .

I did drive in icy conditions when I was still working locally in the 1990.,s wasnt a nice experience and did manage to slip on ice and altho instinct did kick in and i went with the flow and then tried to manage with the steering i did manage to clip the kerb broadside before straightening up.

Had the car checked out and the bang had sent things off kilter but was repairable .

Wont drive now unless I am really confident. Wont try to reverse the car into the garage when its dark cos even though we put the light on its such a tight squeeze its not worth it if I damage the car.

OH was a really good driver and being on shifts he would park the car in the garage no matter what.

I have my limitations and know them . :-(

If you are not confident in driving on snow / ice then don't. Being in the middle of your first slide with no previous tuition or experience will just add another insurance bill or worse to the statistics and tv news. Either delay the trip until the weather is better or phone for a taxi - much cheaper than a prang.

Any reputable driving school will teach you how to drive on ice, leaves and oil spills in a few hours. Unfortunately it is not on the driving test though it should be. Far too many people get their first go unexpectedly during a cold snap and are lucky to get away with no more than butterflies.

How ever skilful the driver he/she can do nothing about the others so in any case is the journey really essential ?

We have a Ford Fiesta .its 4 years old . Nice car but a bugger to line up cos you think you are straight but most times you are at an angle. Its not worth our finances to change it as its still only got 15000 plus miles on it . Hubby too is a Ford Pensioner so with discounts we get it pays to stay with Ford cars

Well he has been on a strong steroid cream now for 7 days and his face has improved, still got a bit of a red neck though just above his chest. He seems to be a bit better in himself but I can see a deterioration in his word recall , very sad,

I do josh him along when he fumbles with his words and reassure him its no big deal, I cant remember names of people or things either , its the age thing .

He has now been referred for a DEXA scan on recommendation by the falls clinic

This is to measure his bone density. Hopefully our daily intake of Glucosamine is helping to keep his bones strong . The worry always is when he falls , inevitable!, whether he will break bones. Often peeps get carried off after they fall from the effects rather from what damage they may have done .

So STILL being a worry guts I guess.

We have been together for 58 years so are tied at the hip
:-D

Hi Shirley, sorry you are feeling so stressed.
At least you can do online shopping so you won't run out of things and won't have to go out much.

Would it be easier for you to buy a smaller car that will go in more easily to the garage, as it would be best if you can put car safely out of the way of snow etc, saves having to dig the car out as well as dig to clear the pathway/drive.

Take care and keep doing the great job you are doing of caring for your o.h.

Mine is driving me nuts, I had an appointment this afternoon and went to go out, couldn't find the car key anywhere - o.h. has cycled to work. I looked everywhere I could think of then phoned him at work but he couldn't remember what he had done with it. For years I have had a little dish on the shelf behind the door to put the key in when we come in. Before we had this replacement car for the one he smashed up, I always had a car key on my keyring with the house keys etc but he wouldn't put his on his house keys and was forever mislaying his car key, as he does the shed and garage and back door key. He managed to lose his car key on sand dunes at the coast earlier this year.
When we got the new car recently there was only one working key with it, I asked him to get another one done asap and in fact he knocked the chap down £20 towards a second key. However he keeps saying he hasn't had time etc etc and so I was stuck inside with no way of getting to my appointment. Later I went to check again to see if I could find it, knowing he has appointments tomorrow morning and Thursday morning, and lo and behold, he had put a pair of jogging bottoms in the wash basket and there was the key inside the pocket! I could have screamed.

The other evening he asked me if we had eaten earlier, now to me that's a bad sign as he had been to get Chinese takeaway so should have remembered it, and I recall my elderly neighbour getting annoyed with her hubby when he used to forget whether they had eaten etc, and he ended up with Alzheimers. O.h.is not quite 60 and should be working for the next 5 yrs or so, he won't go to his doctor despite me suggesting it. Men. grrrrr!

((((((hugs)))))) Shirley. you are doing a great job. I would be the same as you re the driving, especially in bad weather. Hope you can get everything done and the weather is not against you.

Have been keeping an eye on the weather forecasts cos we have lots to do this week.

As i am the driver now but not that experienced in ice and snow I dont like driving in adverse conditions.

OH who has health problems was showing signs this week of a problem. couldnt get a sensible response from him so made a docs appointment.

seems he has got an allergic reaction to a different shaving gel he has been using.

We got a prescription for a steroid cream and we went to Tescos pharmacy to get it and to buy a different gel.

wanted to get everything sorted just in case

A big worry guts am I :-| :-| :-|

Done an online shop just in case

I do worry about getting the car out of the garage, well more on putting in back! cos you have to reverse it in and its an awkward car to line up.

we went to the docs last evening and i had to leave the car outside the garage as couldnt line it up to get it in the garage,

OH not driving or being able to help iots of things isnt easy.

Us carers have more to do than people realise.

STILL LOVE HIM TO BITS THO . he is my world
