what really annoys me
we go to trouble of having our pets micro chipped
but very few councils scan road kill
which i find shocking

even though my pets don't go out unattended
theirs always the chance of escape :-( :-(

My dog is chipped and as with Allan our vet asked us to go back some months later due to a dodgy batch of chips that had failed,

Ours was fine.

Our cats are now required by law to be micro chipped, and registered with the council, but be aware the chips can migrate from their original injection site.

Also, the vet where our cats were done asked us to bring them back in, as some of the chips had failed. Both of our cats had defective chips that couldn't be scanned. They were replaced (the chips, not the cats :-D)

I would hope you reported that Inky, as that is the way we are likely to get rabies enter this country.

Just hope that it is not you that has to find the darn thing with a scanner.

Prior to getting on the ferry (DFDS Esbjerg - Harwich) I was handed a scanner and told to take a reading of doggies chip. Not as easy as you think when one has a big hairy mutt. I knew it was somewhere up on her neck. The folk in the car behind thought I was hoovering her.

Later, on the boat, we were talking to another couple who had a cat in the boot. After chasing it round the car the chap eventually cornered it.

Interestingly, there was no check on the way out of UK - of the microchip or of her pet passport & vaccination records. And at Harwich on the return only the human passports were requested.

Micro chipping will soon be compulsory for all dog owners in England, following an announcement made by the Westminster Government that has been welcomed by Dogs Trust. The Welsh Government has also announced that Micro chipping will be compulsory for all dogs in Wales by 1st March 2015.

Over this weekend just in my area several dogs & cats have gone missing & when found had no micro chip to aid finding their owners.

While collars and tags can get caught or removed – micro chipping identifies your pet permanently and effectively.
