Any infrastructure installed by a public body seems to involve telephone directory numbers.
Someone knocked into a bridge on the A12 near us about six months ago.
The road works to repair it are in place for nearly five months and the cost is about a million quid if I recall.
For that price and time you could have knocked the old bridge down and replaced it half a dozen times over !

A Chicken and Egg approach???

They presumably have bought in to the idea of being less reliant on oil products at the point of use. If there aren't re-charging points readily available, then the local residents/commuters aren't going to even consider the option.

But £47,000 per point? Really? What are they made of? Titanium??

The population of Dorset is about 470,000.
There are about 4,500 electric cars in the UK, mostly in London.
Pro rata Dorset may have as many as 40 electric cars ( not counting pavement chariots ).

In its wisdom the Office for Low Emission Vehicles has decided to fund the installation of 15 charging points in Dorset at a cost of £ 47,000 per point.

I wonder what measure of cuts half a million may have changed or what better choices may have been made. Most of the county cannot get broadband at all or if they can it is < 2Mb. Just possibly getting a move on with rural boradband would have been more popular. Maybe I just don't understand what Clegg's localism means.

Electric cars are not environmental as the electricity will probably have come from a non-eco source and the batteries are a looming disaster area. They are a good way of removing the hard of hearing anda wearers of iPhones from this mortal coil though.
