Dear All

Hello

On this day in 1973, Princess Anne, aged 23 married Mark Philips,
a lieutenant in the Army, at Westminster Abbey.

Princess Anne wore an embroidered Tudor-style wedding dress
with a high collar and mediaeval sleeves.

The princess' bridesmaid was her nine-year-old cousin,
Lady Sarah-Armstrong Jones, daughter of Princess Margaret.

Her youngest brother, nine-year-old Prince Edward, was a pageboy.

An estimated 500 million television viewers around the world
are believed to have watched the ceremony.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The wedding day had been declared a national holiday and crowds lined the streets to watch the newly married couple on their way back to Buckingham Palace.

Many well-wishers had spent the night sleeping in the Mall to get
a good view of the pair who travelled in a horse-drawn carriage.

Later, there was the traditional appearance of the newly married couple with other royal family members.

Their engagement was announced earlier that year in May.

Best wishes

Oh I remember that wedding, I liked Anne's dress a lot, it really suited her and was very elegant and stylish.

Shame things didn't work out for them but they did have two children who have turned out well.

I remember having a day off School - don't think I watched the wedding though. I had the pleasure of meeting the Princess in the 1980's and thought how petite she actually is in the flesh

It would have been her brother's 25th birthday the day before, he was 65 yesterday!

It's a date that sticks in my mind too! I had a lovely studio photo of my two children taken on that day. Every time I look at it, I remember the wedding!!

Remember it well - my best friend and I stood in Horse Guards Parade to watch the procession go by.

Dear All

Hello

Thank you for your replies. :-)

I am pleased you have happy memories of the day.

I saw this anniversary by chance and thought I post.
I don't think there were any other royal weddings in the 1970's.
