Blockbuster - Do you remember renting out a video?

Our first video recorder was a Ferguson Videostar cost in the region of £400 back then. Yes we used to rent video tapes from a local independent shop as purchasing them was very expensive, I seem to recall paying £40+ for a film I bought.

Got rid of all the video tapes a while ago but kept a couple I would like to have transferred onto dvd

As far as Blockbuster goes its a shame but I just don't think it kept up with the times and our branch is sadly one of those that is closing

A few weeks ago I tried to find something REALLY unusual....... eventually found it after three days, and countless shops.

What did I need? A packet of needles!

:-(

We got a new tv last year, can't hook it up to the old video/dvd player. We have loads of videos, some we filmed ( ? ) when on holiday..... so we're keeping the old tv. We'll probably never watch them again, so it's another dust catcher.

The local "video" store is still going (it's had a For Sale sign in the window for a couple of years)...... we haven't rented anything for ages. The only time I go there is to get good icecream lol

Well Elizabeth, in the early 80's we got a video recorder from redifusion which we rented for £15.00 per month. We only ever rented 3 videos in the first year and so decided to give it back!!!

Fast forward to 2013 we have a video and dvd recorder but hardly ever use them. We still have loads of videos though but only a handful of dvds, just never have time to sit and watch them(not often anyway).

i guess with Amazon, free p & p who needs to go out to buy anything thats why a lot of shops are closing. Internet shopping is or has taken over.

For some things its handy but for shoes i prefer to go to a shop as i always end up sending them back when ordering mail order.

I also still like to do xmas shopping locally. The atmosphere, music in shops, mince pies and coffee etc wouldnt be the same if i only shopped online and never went out.

Florence in the hebrides :-)

Dear All

Hello

Remember when you first had a video recorder/player and you rented out a movie for the evening?

Well, today, Blockbuster will close 72 out of its 264 stores in the UK
and cut 452 jobs after it went into administration again.

Blockbuster is one of many High Street shops under pressure.

Electrical chain Comet closed last year, Camera chain Jessops went into
administration and HMV has closed over 60 stores.

At my local high street, there is no DVD/CD shop, no haberdashery
and no DIY stores.

So much for development.

Take gentle care
Best wishes
Elizabeth, EOS
