Hi there, joined today and excited to start searching my family. Is there any New Zealand/Austrailan records on this site? - and can somebody steer me in the right direction please.

Cheers

Debbie :-)

No the are not any New Zealand/Australian records on this site

It is England/Wales based with some Scottish transcribed census's

Did you not see what was available before you joined?

You could search the trees on here and try and make contact with anyone who has your ancestors in their tree

Hi Debbie, and welcome to the site.

There are many Oz/NZ members on here who may have access to the records you require.

Just post on Find Ancestors, or, on General, and I'm sure that someone will be able to help.

I've suggested General although I know that it is not the most appropriate board, but most Ozzies and Kiwis visit there at some time

Regards

Allan

Welcome to the boards Debra, I hope you get all the help you need from the very helpful members on here. A general question on this board will maybe be picked up with somebody who has access to the records you need, they will then probably re-direct you to the find ancestors board etc. Good luck with your search.

Hi Debbie. Welcome. It must be very daunting starting out on your task. Often someone else has researched your family and it is just a matter of checking it is right - sometimes it isn't well researched, mistakes can be made, so beware!!

I think most important thing is to put down what you know and talk to all your family first. Finding an old aunt (someone at least 50 :-D) can be very helpful. Sopmeone may have an old Bible, or old newspaper cuttings.

Then do you want to find all your 16 great great grandparents? Or go back with your father's father's father's father etc as many generation as you can? What is your objective?

As long as your earliest known ancestor was born more than 100 years ago, I see no problem in posting what details you know about him or her on this board (we are not hugely busy at moment on this board and quite appreciate a problem or two). Something like "my great grandfather was born in Australind in Northern Territory in about 1904 and his/her name was ??? and he/she's job was ???" should kick a few brains into gear and give you some clues how to proceed best :-) :-)

Please post any genealogy look ups on the Find Ancestor board

This is not the place for them, whatever anyone else says

And...no matter what anyone else says......we are mostly a very nice bunch of people who usually speak very nicely to each other and newbies. if you post in the wrong place.....don't worry about it, you will soon get the hang of it.......and a tip for all newbies......no one person is in charge of this site, if anyone comes across as such, take a deep breath and put it down to megalomania

Welcome Debbie, I hope you get the help you need with your research. When you have time, do come back to the chat board where you will be welcomed once more. :-)

The main helpers usually hang out on Genealogy Chat and Find Ancestors Boards and seldom venture onto this one
