Bobtrain - perhaps the women should have kept their own surname on marriage.

whether it is first, second, third Marriage etc. then there wouldn't be a problem.

I was once presented with an A4 sheet of paper containing family names.
now these were mainly marriages, but on investigation couldn't find births for many of the female names.........turns out that they were re-marriages after divorce but using the family name to get married under............strange how failed marriages often resulted in failed marriages of their children

don't you think?

The female line seem to bring a lot of new surnames to the pot.

This saves things from becoming boring - instead of Jones, Jones, Jones, Jones, Jones I can have
Silver, White, Green , Black and Pink! (no not really).

Quite spookily, a lot of my ancestors had the same surname as me.

What are the odds of that happening?

Any family tree produces some lemons, some nuts and a few bad apples.

Snobs talk as if they had begotten their own ancestors!

Not neccessarily Budgie. There were pre legal adoptions where a child may never have known the truth. Children brought up thinking their older sister was their aunt. Kidnap.

Budgie Rustler - I would not worry about half of your ancestors being women, the time to worry is when you find out all your ancestors are men :-D
