Col you were lucky that you replaced your smoke alarm, and that the damage was pretty minimal.It could have been so much worse.

Here in Victoria, Australia,when we change over to daylight savings we get constant reminders from the Government to replace the batteries in our smoke alarms.It makes sense as the batteries generally last one year.

So sorry to read this Col, but very glad your new smoke alarm made you aware of the danger and there was only a small amount of damage. Could have been so much worse so thank goodness you checked your alarms when you did.

I'm very sorry to hear about your fire. Glad you are ok and that damage is to the minimum. Thank goodness you checked the alarm when you did.
I lost my Dad and my home in a fire in 1976, so I am very conscious of checking for fire danger.

OMG.! good to hear that your smoke alarm warned you, how frightful.

Have you also got a carbon monoxide alarm, most important if one has a gas boiler.
Hope you get everything sorted out soon.

Glad it was no worse...smoke alarms are invaluable!
Mine was tested 2 weeks ago when a flea bomb set it off....
I do have one on upstairs landing that is on the mains and no battery,but downstairs is battery.
I had to be so careful when my OH was on 24 hr oxygen and we had a load of spare cylinders around.
Hope you soon get it cleaned up.

Thanks - Couple of vinyl tiles need replacing (luckily I've got spares) and the cooker needs a dam good clean other than that just the pong of burning that means that very shortly I will have contributed significantly to Fabreeze's annual turnover

....When we (in the UK) altered our clocks a couple of weeks ago, I posted a suggestion that at the same time we checked our smoke alarms. When I checked mine I found the one in the hall had died so replaced it.
Today I had a kitchen fire, when I was in another room. Thankfully the new smoke detector kicked in and alerted me. Yes I have a scorched cooker and some minor damage to the floor - which can be repaired...but it could have been so much worse....So PLEASE check those smoke detectors....I thought it would never happen to me....it very almost did
