How Government will help with your energy bills

I truly believe that not that many switch. Those of my age were with "electric" for the electric" and "gas" for the "gas". When it was much cheaper to have them both with one supplier, most people opted for either British Gas or the local electric supplier (MEB, MANWEB, SWALEC etc).

And there most have remained, and will remain. I hated British Gas but had been with them for 40 plus years when I changed to E.On 6 years ago (which people still call Powergen). Then 2 years ago I switched to a small supplier First Utility.

I rate customer service much higher than price personally. And some companies do not notice when you are not paying enough and double your direct debit. And you cannot get through and discuss things. First Utility keep a close eye on me and what I use. I prefer dealing with a small British owned and staffed company.

Not sure what the Eds are doing (Miliband and Davey). Something to do with keeping their seats and jobs, I think. Nothing about you and me :-(

We'll probably have another price rise before then !

Cabinet Minister Ed Davey announced today that energy companies face having to allow customers to switch suppliers within 24 hours.

Mr Davey also unveiled details of a review into competition within the energy market. It will be conducted by industry regulator Ofgem, the Competition Commission and the Office of Fair Trading.

I am sure the announcements today will go a long way to keep us warm this winter and as his review is not expected to report until the spring of 2014 maybe he is hoping the anger over price rises will have died down by then ;-)
