Been having the jab for years and never had a reaction till this year when I felt as though I had flu as well. Lasted about 36 hours with me, then I was OK. Hope you feel better very soon Dizzi

we dont have the flu jabs any more. Had them 4 autumns ago and both of us ,and OH sister too. had a really nasty bout of flu . we all said was the worse we could remember. Really put us off the jabs

OH did have the shingle jab last week though even though he had shingles last year on his face that was caught very quickly and treated with anti viral tablets .

He was told have the jab cos it will help if it flares up again

I haven't had a flu jab yet. The first year I refused, the Practice Nurse said that as I was fit and healthy, did not often get colds, was not asthmatic and not prone to chest infections like bronchitis, there was no need to have the jab.

I should reconsider when I reach 80!! :-) :-) :-)

I stopped getting flu jabs a couple of years ago, because I always got a bad cold/flu a few days after getting jabbed. One year the cold/flu went on for about six weeks!

The last couple of years, I've been cold/flu free!

you cannot catch flu from having a flu jab.. any doctor will tell you that.

Some people think they do because it is the time of year when flu is going about. and it just coincidence..

you are not injected with a live flu virus , and that little jab might well save your life..or stop you being very ill.

I often used to catch those 'foreign flu' viruses - one year it developed into bronchitis and then asthma.
Since having the flu jabs I've had filthy colds but haven't caught 'foreign flu'.

This years flu jab didn't seem to give any reaction such as itching or tender lumps.

I too, have refused the flu jab for several years, because I was very off-colour for days after having it done in the years before.Whatever was in the injection, it didn't agree with me.More of my friends stopped having it too, for the same reason.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 29 Oct 2013 11:56

this year for the first time I didn't even feel the jab and instantly forgot all about it - over a week ago now and no ill effects

The Flu jab simply helps your body's immune system to make antibodies to attack the flu virus should you catch the Flu, It cannot give you flu but in some people it does give a slight temperature and aching muscles for a couple of days afterwards which is why some people think it's given them the Flu,

I have turned down the offer of the Jab for years now but after catching a very bad does of flu last year i will be having my jab this year, in fact i'm going to the surgery today for mine

If your at risk then have the Jab,

Roy

I agree with Stella. I asked my Doctor a couple of years ago if the Flu jab did in fact "give" you flu. "Certainly not" was his reply as he deftly gave me my injection.

Sometimes over the years I have developed slight flu like symptoms, but if you could seem me when I have Bronchitis and it sets off my Asthma, I think you would agree with me its wise to continue opting for the injection.

AnnC like you I did not feel even the tiniest jab this year, but to be honest the Doctor was so busy chatting to me you could have hit me with a sledge hammer and I would not have noticed......He is rather dishy <3 <3 <3

After reading this thread ( and the report from someone else) I've postponed Friday's appointment until Monday - too busy to be 'ill' over the weekend! :-)

Sylvia

Sylvia Report 30 Oct 2013 11:50

My doctor told me that the flu jab can take a week or so to protect from the flu, and if people get the flu in that time it was already in their system. It will not protect people from colds.

This is from the question and answer section of the leaflet the pharmacist gave me when I had my 'flu jab last week.

Q: Can the 'flu jab cause 'flu?

A: Absolutely not. The World Health Organisation approved vaccine that we use contains no live 'flu virus so it is impossible to give you the 'flu.

Q: Are there any side effects?

A: Side effects are extremely uncommon. Some people may feel slight soreness in their arm where they had the injection. Occasionally, a slight temperature or headache 24 hours after the jab may be experienced.

Annie (who had no ill effects whatsoever)
