The wind blew all evening & the rain lashed down.

Prepared ourselves for a dawn without power ... flask of tea

Went to bed, the noise of the wind made getting to sleep difficult, had just nodded off & there was a very loud crash from across the road. A dead ash tree had come down across their drive.

Woke this morning to no power, so snuggled back down under our duvet whilst drinking that tea & congratulating ourselves for making it.

J had just set off along to the yard to get a generator when the power came back on.
When I rang J to tell him I had power he said that there are branches & wires down all along the road.

Power has cut out a couple of times since so am going to log back out quite soon.

Hope everyone is safe & have not got too much damage.

Stay safe all

:-)

Commented on another thread that only Dizzi seems to have posted this morning from the south where storm was worst. Seen one post from Isle of Wight since.

Was thinking of you, Carol. And pleased you are all ok. Sounds pretty bad where you are.

We live in Kent . Our daughter lives near Folkestone and at 6.30 she was woken by almighty crash noises. 9 ridge tiles came down some damaging other tiles as they fell and also damaged the porch roof . What she is more peed about us that some debris crashed over the bonnet of her car causing multiple dents and abrasions down the car. Will need new bonnet costing about 2 grand .its an expensive sporty type car . Plus her excess is £450 and her insurance premium will go up .

She has said once it's repaired she is getting rid cos it seems to attract damage .has come back to it several times where it's been parked to find it scratched etc .

She isn't a happy bunny at the mo .

A local roofing company has come out and assessed the damage and made it safe and will quote fur the insurance repair but she has to submit two estimates to the insurance so he may not get the job but he made it safe without charging her which is very good of him

In Hertfordshire lots of trees down, several on railway lines, one across bus. Two doors away a 60' cherry tree down over at least two gardens, but sun is shining now.

We are OK but neighbour's fence took a hammering and a branch just missed his car through roof of carport.

Part of village without electricity. Shop and community centre cannot open.

OH had torch and oxygen cylinder in bedroom - just in case.

we are very lucky here in Cardiff - the prediction was a bit out and the worst of it was further south

where are you in the UK Carol?

I am in East Sussex, the wind is still gusting, but every so often the sun tries to break through.
Garden is covered in twigs & leaves from the oak at the bottom, but no real damage so far.

Well apart from our neighbour telling me their fence is blocking my back passage and a garden full of leaves, we did alright.

I saw 3 trees down not far from us and a fair amount of random fence panels lying in odd places, but all in all we were very lucky.

Lucky in Northumberland so far, checked forecasts for daughters in Sunderland and Lancaster which seem pretty safe, have son in London so hoping no news from him is good news! ( not one of the best communicators anyway)
