Black/purple carrots - anyone tried them?

I bought some on Friday, apparently S****bury's get them in every Halloween, and call them 'witches noses'.
Never tried them before.

Now, as I live alone, I try to cook veggies in the same pan, sometimes using a steamer, sometimes not, and use the water for gravy.

Yesterday put carrots in pan, when they started boiling, added cabbage.
No-one told me purple carrots 'bleed' like beetroot.
My 'sweetheart' cabbage had purple edges and veins, and the gravy was an interesting colour :-0 :-0 :-S

That was the original colour of carrots.

The Dutch bred them to be orange in honour of their royal house.

Now there IS a useful piece of information.

Oooh roasted sounds nice. I thought they were a little 'flavourless'.

Have currently got some in the slow cooker with pork & chorizo. Chorizo & carrots are fighting over who can colour the most!!

Hi Sharron, yes I knew they were originally purple, but not sure if these are a modern over-hybridised variety or not. Would love to try the original!

A friend grew some of the purple carrots and gave me some to try. Thought they tasted sweeter than the orange, but messy to prepare.!
Saw black potatoes in S'burys recently.
