....... change your clock, test your smoke alarms

Last year 197 people died in fires in the home in the UK. You are 4 times more likely to die in a fire in the home if there is no working smoke alarm. So when you change your clocks, test your smoke alarms. It takes no time at all and gives you and your family a better chance of surviving a fire. Tick. Tock. Test.

Not my idea I'm afraid but the local fire service have been promoting it so thought it worth passing on. I shall do mine and also check my elderly Mum's when I visit next week

If you think a fire won't happen to you here are a few more figures of the cause of household fires

14% of fires were caused by washing machines
12% by tumble driers
11% by dishwashers
8% by ovens
7% by fridges or freezers
5% by central heating
4% by toaster or grill
3% by microwaves
3% by TV's
2% by electric blankets
1% by electric irons
