I wonder if any political leader would have the nerve to put the pits back to work?

We are sitting on generations of coal.

Think of the thousands who could work.

Hundreds of mining communities could be brought back to life.

Our economy would prosper.

What does this forum think?

Oh dear, have you forgotten the dirty filthy killer smog of yesteryear David.
I prefer my great grandchildren to breath clean fresh air if possible, not that vile smog produced via fossil fuels.

Mind you with todays ever expanding technology they could possibly come up with some kind of filter instead of releasing all the toxic gases into the atmosphere.
Something liken to the catalytic converter on a car exhaust would suffice I think.
(cue for Rollo to appear) :-)

They had the technology 30 years ago to separate the tar and so produce coke.
