Item on the news,

http://www.ageuk.org.uk/professional-resources-home/services-and-practice/health-and-wellbeing/men-in-sheds/

general idea is a place other than the pub where older men can socialise, do woodwork, share and learn new skills...

"About Men in Sheds

Men in Sheds was a pilot project that supported older men who want to get together, share and learn new skills - all in the welcoming space of a ‘Shed’.

I wonder why there aren't any 'women's sheds'?

Women tend to congregate at shop doorways prohibiting the entry & exit of timid men.

They all speak simultaneously & I can never determine who is the dedicated listener.

Here is an excellent shed where men of all ages can meet and exchange skills ( mainly musical ) - I tend to wind up there when coming from over the water.

The temperance societies are alive and well then.

The council here have designated meeting places for young women with babies. They are on the narrowest part of the High Street pavements. The young mothers push their prams or push chairs (usually a twin with one one child) to this place and form as large a barrier as possible.

As we non young mothers step out into the traffic to skirt round their debate, we are required to wave cheerily at them and blow kisses at offending babies :-( :-(

I don't like shopping, he does.

We went to some sort of outlet place where he went looking at God knows what. There was a crèche for husbands but nowhere for me to go. I didn't think I would be welcomed in there.

My shed is still not ready for me to hole up in as I have run out of money for the lining and electrics. When it is ready there will be very few allowed to enter I can tell you.

You'll remember my shed, it came with free erection.

lol @Sharron

I do wonder if as my OH gets older he might want to have a shed. :-S.
I actually bought him golf clubs so he could have time away from me.....yes they are sitting in the cupboard even though he can play, but I don´t.
Maybe when he retires and has me 24/7 ? mmmm we spent the 1st 8yrs working and living together. :-D

Dylan Thomas had a shed in Laugharne
William Cowper (poet, pronounced Cooper) had a shed in Olney.

Didn't do them any harm being stuck at end of garden by themselves all day. :-)

We have a number of Men's Sheds in our area. The members make a number of things to sell for charity as well as enjoying the companionship.

I think sheds are a very good place to keep men in .......

And you girls deserve palaces with white thick carpets right through. Champagne and canapes on tap, men kept out in the cold sheds night and day. Nothing but the waft of Chanel through your palace. No dirty washing strewn about, no unmentionable marks round the toilet with the seat constantly raised, no football on Telly, and no dirty boots or smelly socks

Expect not all of you get what you deserve though ;-)

I believe there are "Men & Sheds" groups all over the world.

I think it was started by women, to get the men out of the house :-D
