Deleting Gmail account

Having opened a Gmail account I find it does not fit the bill and I wish to delete it, but cannot find how to do this.
Assistance required please.

Hi BrianW

If you click on your email address that appears at the top right hand side of the page it should produce a dropdown that has Account - Privacy in Blue. Click on Account and Scroll down to Account Management at the bottom on the lefthand side. In blue there is Close Account and delete all services; click on that and you should be able to close the Account.

It's easy.
Make sure you are signed out of any Google a/c on any computer/phone.
Then login to the email account.
Top right you will see your avatar or placeholder for it.
Click on the avatar.
Choose "account management"
scroll down until you see delete account.
delete it.
there u go, no more Google tracking.

moving to Win8 Mobile ?

Although I do not have one, I always beleived that if a Gmail account was not used after a certain amount of time it was deleted?
