Seems to be centred on central third of the country - The Visayas islands. Islands like Cebu (capital Cebu City), Negros and Bohal. Quite close also to Leyte. 7.1 on Richter scale - and whole roads torn apart by the force. :-(

My son was there in June on holiday. He teaches diving and went there for a busman's holiday. They are saying 73 dead at the moment.

I was aked to do some work in Mindanao 6 years ago. It was not the right time. I have thanked my stars ever since as these poor people have been hit by one disaster after another ever since. And thousands die because no health care or infratructure as we know it.

It sounds like this earthquake is not in Mindanau (the southern third of Philippines) but will no doubt cause havoc down there. Prayers for relatives of Genes members, and my thoughts and prayers are with the Indonesian people.

There's been a big earthquake in the Philippines where my son is working. Fortunately, he'd left a message on Skype early this morning to say he wasn't affected on his island before I saw the news. How communications have changed for the better! Saved me going frantic.
