OneFootInTheGrave Report 14 Oct 2013 15:29

As much as I agree that there are certain aspects of the welfare state & the benefit system, immigration, and our membership of the EU, that need to be tackled, having said that, I do not approve of the current scaremongering tactics being used by the government to gain popularity in the polls in the run up to the general election in 2015.

As the article in your OP more or less says, it does not matter if any of the governments policies and proposals for, the welfare state & the benefit system, immigration, and our membership of the EU - work, nor does it matter what they cost or what damage they do, either in the short term or long term, what does matter is that the government is seen by those David Cameron refers to as "hard working families" believe that the government is tackling these issues.

Only today, an EU report throws some doubt on claims about the number of individuals from the EU who are coming to the UK to claim benefits, stating there is a lack of official data and are asking the UK government to provide evidence of so called benefit tourism from the EU to the UK - it would be interesting to see factual authenticated figures ;-)
