Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 13 Oct 2013 23:34

There is no catch. I used this system to make my will in 2007 when both son and I were travelling abroad together - he is the only person I would want to have my worldly goods (even tho he thinks I have far too many of them lol)

O.h. has been meaning to do his for ages, so I have sent him the link by email so he can get busy this week. It will keep his mind occupied (will elaborate on a different thread)

I have left donations to the charities involved

You can make a will yourself - for free!!

My mum did, and it even involved selling a house and distributing goods/money between 10 of us! :-D

"Is there a catch?

Solicitors usually charge up to £150 to write a will, although it can cost more for more complex ones.

This fee is waived during Free Wills Month because the campaign is backed by charities. The hope is you'll leave a donation to a chosen cause when you die instead. You're under no obligation to do so, but it may be something you wish to consider."

He has only been married 2 years. And it is difficult when you have a new baby, but I see no reason for this campaign. :-( :-( :-(

More seriously, this sounds a great campaign. I have often thought that when people claim their OAP (I am claiming mine in 2 months time), they should insist that you make a will properly before your first claim. And the solicitor's fee (which would be no more than £300 for a complicated will and far less for a simple one) should be charged against your first pension payment.

I got this idea from a will written by an ancestor who was KIA in WW1. They were all made to write a will and also to write a letter to their next of kin in event of death. It must have been horrible to see these letters and wills so soon after their deaths, but at least it tidied up their affairs (and would have put leeches like Fraser & Fraser and Celtic Research out of business).

You are expected to make a donation. Always a good idea to update.

Meant to add this earlier, but did you know if you are over 55 you can get your will made for free this month, with participating solicitors.

You can put your postcode in on this site to find solicitors in your area
