I have more than a grubby hand print on my walls

Currently in the process of planning to repaint the entire room for the 2nd time in just over 2yrs

For whatever reason there is one radiator in our lounge that creates a grey/black plume up the wall,. ( luckily it is mistaken for shadow from vertical blinds)
The plume reaches the ceiling, works across the width of the entire room and is now halfway down the opposite wall.
When cleaning the windows, I found similar deposit on the glass.

There are 2 radiators in the room but it only affects one.
No one knows why it happens, and the gas company is baffled, but, I am certain it is caused by the airflow in the room, combined with... burning scented candles

The grey/black is quite oily and smears badly if it is wiped .
I found it settled on the windows too.
Since giving up on candles, the windows are clear of the oily stuff.
I now use an electric, steam type diffuser with scented oils .

As much as I loathe them, once the room is repainted, I am going to try a radiator cover!
