Hello everyone,

I am trying to trace a person on this site and I have an actual DOB of 22nd November 1945 and can find no connections but I have a possible connection with a registered date of 1st Q (January, February, March )1966.

Was it common at that time to have actual births officially registered after the actual birth date?

If someone can help that would be great.

Kevin

Yes.

Parents have 6 weeks after the birth in which to register the birth so a child born 22/11 could have their birth registered at the beginning of the following January. The actual date of the birth (22/11/1966) will appear on the certificate but it will appear in the index in the Jan/Feb/Mar Quarter of 1967 for example.

You have 6 weeks to register a birth

My grandmother was born 25th Nov and she is registered the following quarter (jan/feb/march following year)

Just to add that Scottish births have less time, they have to be registered within 21 days.
