You know those people who like to keep up the façade of being a bit clever and superior? They usually have to adopt a bit of a posh voice and let you know about their middle-class, clever interests.

I went to a funeral today and there was the superior cousin or somebody there who had to read out a bit of poetry in her posh voice and drop into conversation about her social history group whilst standing very upright so you think she has had posture lessons.

She was coming it a bit with this other woman she was trying to look down on. The other woman had had a virus and was saying how she kept dropping off.

The posh poser said " Oh, do you suffer from necromancy, dropping off to sleep unexpectedly?"

Firstly I find it quite sad that the woman who was being addressed suffered from Narcolepsy as it is such a debilitating illness.

I think from time to time we all make mistakes with words, I know I do, but because someone is well spoken does not make them any way superior.

I don't understand the middle class clever interests.

The woman does not suffer from narcolepsy, she s just tired because she is recovering from a virus.

There is a difference between enjoying a pastime that might be perceived as clever by some and making a big show of enjoying it which shows that it impresses you even if it has no effect on others.

As for the big words. I always assume that everybody else knows the same words as I do and, on the many occasions I misuse them, I like to point out my error so that we can both enjoy a laugh at my own expense rather than have them try to suppress a titter.

I know a woman who is thick as two short planks who thinks that using long words impresses. Un fortunately, like Rodneys French, she rarely gets the right word.

For example ,she once told me that she had been ejaculated from a shop after a disagreement with the owner.
