Might be a good idea to stock up on your favourite chocolate as there is a report in The Gaily Mail today that prices could rise before Christmas :-(

Rising cost of cocoa butter will push every 100g of milk chocolate up 21p
Other crucial ingredients such as milk powder are also more expensive
Bad weather has hit key growing region of Ivory Coast, experts explain

We all look forward to a few extra little luxuries at Christmas, but this year, your favourite festive treats could hit your wallet as hard as your waistline, with the cost of chocolate set to soar by up to a third.

Crippling rises in the price of cocoa butter could add 21p to the cost of every 100g of milk chocolate by December, experts said.

aarghhh!! Two possibilities:

1. We could have a Christmas not being able to afford chocolate. Remember those chocolate substitutes we had in the 1950's and 1960's, made from cocoa butter or something. Really horrible, but cheap.
2. Shop in Lidl. My Bounty bar (CocoChoc, I think) is 25p in Lidl. Even if it doubles in price, it will still be cheaper than a proper Bounty. And tastes nearly the same. Bars of chocolate in Lidl for 35p - good quality too. And the gorgeous cherry liqueurs are £1.29 for a whole box :-D

Disclaimer. I am not suggesting everyone shops in Lidl. There are many other similar emporia to be explored for bargains. :-) ;-)

Edit. Rollo. Just looked at that link about future prices of world cocoa. It seems to suggest that future prices will drop slightly. Am I reading it right? :-S Are Daily Mail not telling the whole truth in order to create interest and sell more of their appetising newspaper :-S

Sadly December cocoa is trending upwards

http://futures.tradingcharts.com/chart/CC/

Since the wicked Kraft company took away my beloved dark Bournville slabs with nuts I have managed to binge less on chocolate. All the same I tend to find myself gazing wistfully at Green&Black and don't always resist.

Yesterday dinner Dover sole, small glass of white wine, fresh fruit.
( preferred menu t-bone, large glass of red, choc mud pie pudding)
OH is determined that there will be less and less of me, she has found and hidden the emergency chocolate :-(

Maybe Milliband will take over the chocolate companies and issue 250g free every Thursday
;-)

It has been quite a while since I had Bournville
chocolate with dairy chocolate in the middle.
Heaven :-)

They already sell bags of mini Mars Bar - they will probably replace the already substantially reduced normal sized Mars Bar :-(

I love Green and Blacks 70% dark chocolate. I gave up chocolate for a while but needed something. I tried G&Bs 70% and two squares is enough for the chocolate hit :-D Any more is too much nowadays.

The co op has tins of the Cadburys/Mars/\Nestle on offer from the 10th-26th Oct. £9 for two tins. Its worth stocking up early.

:-D

I was just planning a big chocolate shop tomorrow ... then realized that the shops will have ordered/got their Christmas stock by now, so that's safe. :-D

Seems it will be an expensive Easter :-|

What will I do with that skinny woman?

The one that's inside me, screaming to get out!!

Up until now I've shut her up by feeding her chocolate.
