Today when seeing the plumber out I saw a young man in a hoodie walk across the grass outside my house.Thought no more about it. Then my son phoned to say that the plumber had rung him to say that he was worried about me because he had seen this person hanging along the walk where I live. Told my son that I would look out of the front bedroom window to still if he was still about. I didn't see anyone so started to replace the broken tiles on the toilet wall.
Whilst I was doing this heard the sound of the gate to my side garden then a bump and went to look out the side window of my living room. I was shocked to see this person in his hoodie obviously trying to get over the gate into my back garden. I shouted something and he sidled away in front of me I made no attempt to get to the front door as I was so scared to confront him.
I phoned my son and he said that I should inform the police. which I did via 101. I told them about the incident and all my details including my postcode.....I was told that someone would be come to see me that it would be about an hour. Fair enough it wasn't urgent.
This is the unnerving part...... after about an hour and half a had a call from the police to say they couldn't find my house. :-0 The officer told me where he was and it was about 500 yards from where I live. I told him that he was almost to the junction of my road and the one he was already in......... then I had another call to say they still could not locate me! I explained again and then he said he would be sending a two foot officers to come to see me and could I stand outside my door! I said I will stand in the porch, but I did venture up the path and saw a police van slowly along the road in front of where I live. Did they see me outside? I don't know because I went inside my porch and waited at least 5 mins later.

What worries me is that with my full address including postcode, with the technology of today including Google street view that the police could not find my house when trades people and delivery companies can.

Dear Joeva

Hello

What a nasty incident.

The emergency services can easily locate someone in need at their home.

The postcode and also, any landmarks given in the phone call to them
would have easily provided enough information, even using a map.

No way should you be standing outside your front door.

You handled this situation very well.
Very frightening.

I am not surprised lots of people keep a baseball bat in their home
or a large frying pan will do.

Take very gentle care of yourself
Sincere wishes
Elizabeth, EOS

Thanks Elizabeth,

I have had so many scary moments over the years that I have learned to overcome them and not make myself a victim of the low life that exists in society.

I have in the past had excellent response from the police when I have had an emergency and have dialed 999. On this occasion I find it a bit disconcerting that they had so much trouble locating my address :-0

Presumably all police have sat navs (or do they). post code and house number should be sufficient, unless you live on a corner or somewhere that the postcode send people to a road behind you. We have had that with the sat nav. But your description should have been sufficient. Thank goodness it was not urgent. It would be interesting to know why they couldn't locate you though for your own peace of mind. :-S

Sat navs often bring delivery folks to the back of our house which is a cull de sac for access to our garages that are at the back of everyone's garden, often get a phone call to say we are here but don't know which one is your house and I have to redirect them round to the front At least though they get here even if it is the back garden
