That's our Brightsolid - only time will tell if any changes will lead to any improvements.

There is a short article about these changes in FTM November issue Page 8:

DC Thomson plans to split Brightsolid into
1. BSOP (OnLine Publishing) - including Findmy past and GR. Annelies van den Belt has been appointed Chief Executive of BSOP.
2. BSOT (Brightsolid Online Technology). No news yet of who will be Chief Executive of BSOT.

Chris van der Kuyl, currently Group Chief Executive Officer of brightsolid, will become strategic advisor to the DC Thomson Board.

This is fairly old news.

Annelies van den Belt has been hired off the back of a web portfolio based on social networking sites such as LiveJournal, notably in Russia.

From the point of view of D C Thompson she is charged with pulling the loss making FH interests into profit.

Given her background my guess is that all of the sites are going to see radical changes designed to substantially lift web traffic and hence advertising revenue.

It looks like the two companies will be expected to work alongside. OP to market better, bring in punters and increase revenues and profit. OT to get this sorry mess of technology into the 21st century.

Perhaps one day we will all have emoticons, a decent tree layout and not quite so many error messages or long waits whilst GR loads up. And an end to this "what browser are you on, are you using IE9 or IE10?". For heavens sake, we are mostly aged* amateur family historians wanting a bit of fun and enlightenment.

Aged = over 55. It does not refer to the person now reading this.
