Our junior cat is a stubborn little fighter. He has recovered from a near write off situation to be nearly fit to go.

Unfortunately there is still some of the wound where his flesh is exposed. He has been wearing cones to stop him licking it with his raspy tongue but every now and again he manages to lick the wound undoing days of progress.

When I was a child I remember my granny, faced with a similar problem, putting something that tasted bad ( for cats ) on the wound that was not harmful except for tasting bad.

Any ideas ?

Possibly Bitter Aloes.
My gran used to paint my fingers with it to stop me biting my nails.
No idea if you can still get it though. Probably not. (Elf & Safety) :-( :-( ;-)

Why not try the old nail biting cure Bitter Aloes, I believe it also has medicinal healing properties - Google it, Good Luck

Edit - believe you can also get it as a cream/ointment

I am researching the Wotherspoon family from the Old/New Monkland areas of Scotland, some moved to the Leslie and Kelty areas of Fife and I'm having problems linking the Wotherspoon's from Leslie and the Wotherspoon's from Kelty. You could always try Johnson's Tea Tree Skin Cream.

Maybe the skin is healing and like us it could be itching and just needs a covering of the above cream..

It's good as I used it on all my cats.

Rollo I don't know if this would help? you could ask your vet.

Bitter Apple Spray can be sprayed on wounds and dressings to deter your pet from licking or chewing. Also great to stop teething puppies from chewing things they shouldn't, such as furniture or shoes.

Can be used with cats, dogs and even ferrets

i would just try johnsons baby talc
some animals just dont like the taste and its harmless

thank you too for jogging my memory - my granny use bitter aloes and not only her cat but me too if I was caught eating with my fingers ...

I am hopeful that these suggestion will work - shall let you know
