I picked up a few conkers last week for a friend who thinks they keep spiders at bay, so she has a bowl of conkers in her living room.
They were early fallers and not all fully formed.The main crop is still on the trees around here.
I love the look of large horse chestnuts. Very tactile too.

Acorns - OH is sweeping them up by the bucketful. The pesky squirrels are not doing their job.

Ithey are falling here

we allways took the grand kids conkering realy we used it as an exuse for us

when my oh takes the dog out if some have dropped he brings them home as I keep them to ward off spiders

he moans when he finds them in cubards on wtndow sills in pots etc any where I think spiders might lurk :-D

Well I've just passed a tree on the way back from the shop, and it hasn't dropped any yet, though I can see some on it :-)

I don't think they are allowed to play conkers any more, either not PC or elf n safety especially if you bake yr conker in the oven and don't wear protective eye gear ...

x-box is safer.

Loads of them where I live, all dropping now. Our neighbour has a Horse Chestnut tree in their garden & you need a hard hat on to walk under it at the moment. Used to collect them with my boys. They are beautiful when they first open. A friend picked some up last week, he says they keep spiders away, his wife does'nt like spiders.

How are they doing this year?

I ussed to collect them and put them in bowls on the fire place at Christmas . (and apparently they are good to put in wardrobes to keep moths away).
