Yes he's using a different surname. So i assume this is his adoptive name or maybe it was just a user name perhaps? Anyway i'll have a look. Thanks jax.

You sent me a pm and I asked if he was using his new name?

If he is then you could search the electoral roll to see if you could find an address.

If his account is in his birth name then it would not be of any use

All I can suggest is that your dad adds his name to the Adoption contact register and if his brother has done the same they will notify you

No i haven't looked at the electrol roll, what can you find out from that then. could i find out from his birth name or have i got to have his adoptive name i wonder?

His number is 979756 so does this mean he joined in 2009 maybe?

Ohh! I see, Thanks for that, I did wonder... So there is no way of reaching this person on genes then. Oh dear i fear that will be that, as this chap like my dad was adopted and changed names, it was just by chance i noticed he had my dads real mothers name in his tree and when i looked to see who this was saw he has the family christian name and when i researched further i found he was another adopted sibling of my fathers. So near yet so far. Im not giving up yet tho Any suggestions?

You could also try to work out when they became a member, by looking at their membership number.

New members have a membership number 13 million +
Someone with a membership number less than a million joined 9 to 10 years ago

I joined in 2007 my membership number is 7 million+

There is more of a chance that someone who joined years ago would of changed their email address

The person will only get notification of a message waiting for them on GR.

The message DOES NOT APPEAR IN THE EMAIL.

Plenty of patience is needed when sending a message as they may not come on GR for all sorts of reasons.

Good Luck I hope he replies to the message.

Ahh thanks Jax then maybe theres hope, you see i was afraid he had read the message and didnt want to know, which of course he has the right to do but it would have been bitterly disappointing for my dad. So maybe he just hasnt recieved our message and the story might yet have a happy ending. :-D

Sorry what i meant was would the envelope appear open even if he's read his message only on his email. You see what i think is maybe he's read it and doesnt want to be in contact. I wouldnt worry but this is a long lost brother of my father and we are desperate to contact him.

jax Report 19 Sep 2013 13:46

I don't think you can read a message through your emails....It is just a notification that there is one here to be read and who sent it

Hello Hopkins,

If GR still has a current email for the person they will receive notification of the message and be able to respond, even if they are no longer a paying member. You can see if the message has been read when the 'envelope' disappears.

jax

jax Report 19 Sep 2013 13:34

A pm (private message) will go to their email address as long as they have notified GR of any changes...even if they do not pay they can reply.

When you send mail does it also go to their email address and would they only recieve it if they are a payed up member. Sorry if ive got the wrong board again i really cannot get my head round which place to put a question and fear i never will. lol
