I LOVE IT WHEN I SEE KIDS READING BOOKS,
BUT THE NEW AMAZON ADVERT HAS KIDS READING KINDLE'S
THEIR MISSING THE FEEL OF PAPER.THE PRINT ON THEIR
HANDS,LOOKING THROUGH SHELVES FOR THE TITLE.
STICKING THE BOOK IN THEIR POCKET,,,,,,,,

My Grandchildren have Kindles but they prefer to read books. They use the kindle for Free classics of which there are many. I too go between the two. You are right, there is nothing like the feel of a book, but the kindles ease of use and capacity for a whole library of subjects, especially when holidaying or in a waiting room, makes it a must have in my opinion.

I love the feel and smell of a real book.

My daughter has bookshelves covering two walls of her lounge. The bottom two shelves are full of her two younger (boys aged 3 & 5) children's books
We (10 of us) went on holiday for a week - to a 'child friendly' house - that had lots of children's books in it.
What did the boys do as soon as they got home? Dragged their books out of the shelves, lay on them and read them :-D

You can't do that with a Kindle!!!

Apparently, the other young children - my great nephew and niece (2 & 6) did the same thing.
The elder child - my 11 year old grand daughter, who read to the younger ones whilst on this holiday, wanted to know how a certain story ended, so my nephew (father of the other 2 children) sent her the book when he'd finished reading it to his children (my great niece & nephew.)
Much more personal than sending her the link to a book.

Oh - and you can't throw a Kindle over your shoulder and expect to be able to still read the story!!

I like to read the back of the book to see if I am going to want to read it. Can you do this with a Kindle?

Yes - that blurb you read on the back of the book, it's on the page for the book, this is how I decide now if I am to order a new book for my Kindle (unless an author who I am already familiar with). So no different from picking up a book and reading the back.

I always said I would never go over to an electronic reader, then 2 years ago I realised that even buying through charity shops I was spending a fortune on paperbacks. So succumbed and bought a Kindle. It has been a revelation. Easy to download (I do this via the USB cable, as at the time I did not have WiFi). The money I have saved has more than paid for mine and OH's. Many of the authors I now read self publish and cost well under £2.00 and I always watch out for the free books which are available all the time and for the specials which are free for a day only (usually more popular authors). And as I am now getting slightly arthiritc hands and fingers, even easier to hold than a book.

As I am a very fast reader, can read 3 books in less than a week, and have been known to read a book overnight!!! The Kindle mean that I never run out of something to read, when getting low on books on my Kindle, I just load up wiith about 10 or so more.

Now I only buy books for reference and then always in Hardback, and still many of these come from charity shops/ebay.

Do no knock something until you have tried it. And as said before, Kids if they enjoy reading will read via any system be it a book or a kindle and remember much of their learning is now done on a computer, so an Ereader for them is just not as alien to them as it is to us oldies.... :-D :-D
