Carol
It's good to know that you've had news to say that your brother and his family are OK.
The volume and intensity of the floods make it a very worrying situation there.

Hi Carol, you must have been so worried till you heard from your brother.

I feel sorry for all those on the news reports who have lost everything, and it's terrible that people have died.

It's hard to fight the weather extremes

Thank you all who replied.

In my Brothers words:
' Luckily our house is on a slight rise at the back of our cul-du-sac, and although we have a stream at the back of our house that had risen six feet or so, we have not been affected by the rain or the flooding. My office building did not do as well. And when I went to my office on Friday the street in front was a river with the water and mud having washed into the lower floor. Again, I am luck to be on the second floor and apart from the musty smell and noise of evaporators from downstairs, I have been unaffected. N's office is also on the second floor and so we have both come through unscathed.

Others have not been as fortunate and today we started to see some of the aftermath: building washed out, roads torn up and we heard that one of our friends and colleague's office was completely destroyed. The flooding has moved east and Boulder is left with significant damage and the need for extensive repairs. Some small towns are still cut off. N's cousin lives in Estes and there is only one road in which has been shut down to all but emergency traffic, so she is feeling a little cut off.'

I did worry whilst waiting for him to reply to my messages, he may be in his late 50's but he will always be my baby brother <3 :-D

Carol and Jude ................. great to hear your relatives are safe.

The very latest news on my radio news (literally just now) is ..................

more dead have been found, people are still missing and some of those are known to be dead.

However .............. people are being warned that they will be without power for WEEKS.

Supplies are going to be difficult, even if their houses are undamaged.

It will take months before houses are re-built, and everything is back to some semblance of normal.

Houses destroyed in Superstorm Sandy, the east coast storm in October 2012, have still not been repaired, and people are living in shells or elsewhere. I hope this does not happen in Colorado

One of the saddest things I saw was on out TV news last night, when a sheriff from Boulder County was expressing what it felt like to be a first responder, get a call for help form someone in the affected area, and know that they just would not be able to get there, and that the person would have to do the best they could.

They are telling people to stay in their homes and not to go to see what is happening.
