Not sure Sharron , we live a couple of miles away, normally just do the market and the supermarket, and a stroll round the park, I think the link is explaining it very well , but I will ask the meat man what its all about, vaguely remember hearing about it sometime ago , then forgot it.I do know there is a big variety of home produce stalls both inside and outside on market days ......its just a lovely small town with friendly folk I would have liked to live there.....everyone seems to know each other.. Hebden Bridge which is further on, is a same sort of place too.... quaint....

What do you see Jean?

Are people harvesting a few beans for their meal and taking a sprig or two of mint for their spuds or are there some who help themselves wholesale and leave little for the others?

I don't know how I would feel about doing that. (Of course I would make Fred do it!)

Does it foster a community spirit or was that there in the first place to enable the project to happen?

Next time we go I will see if I can get any more info and let you know...

It is the food project I am particularly interested in Jean. It looks to be such a good and radical idea that I would like to know how it works in reality.

We go to Tod as we call it every week and it has a super market selling all kinds of stuff , it also has a lovely large park usually showing many types of shows and events. a great town with a village feeling, one of our favourite places loads of places to eat .
if you get chance to visit it I am sure you would find it interesting.....

Don't think I entirely understand the concept but wonder how it would work elsewhere e:g here.

A community orchard was planted here a year or two back but nobody appears to know it was coming, it was not publicised and I don't even know who was behind it all, which is most unusual for this village.

There are a lot of children from out of the village in the primary school and I suspect it was organized by parents but it was done very discretely.

As I am sure you know, I don't like spending money and make poor Fred go poking about in hedges and scrumping at this time of year.

I have a few books about foraging and, in the one by Alys Fowler, there is a chapter about Incredible Edible Todmorden where they have turned growing food into a community project.

We live too far away to go and see it in action at the moment but I wondered if anybody else knew about the project and what they thought about it. ,
