As dizzy say,s a wet room with half shower door is the way to go. I had one fitted through a grant through the local council , if you ask your social worker about it they will give you all the info on how to apply. I loved it.

We have a wet room with a sort of folding fence and shower curtains.

I can't say that I know very much about it because I always have a bath upstairs but have not heard Fred or his carers complain about it.

IF parents can't get a Council grant there are other agencies who might be able to help. For example if either parent served in HM Forces, Merchant Navy then an approach could be made to RBL or SSAFA Forces Help. Parent then interviewed , large form completed by interviewer and decision taken as to if financial help be given - means tested.

If parents no armed forces service it is still a possibility that help can be found. ie Ex miners can get help from a mining org, civil service people from their fund et al

NB If parents live in a rented property then any work undertaken must be approved by landlord

My fiercely independent parents went ahead with one of those advertised in the likes of Yours Magazine.

We wanted to do them a B&Q double length shower tray ands half glass screen but they went ahead with their plan.

After my father died I found the receipt ( approx. 2 years ago) very VERY little change out of 8K. No wonder there is no advertised price in the magazines....

I nearly had heart failure. Very simple change, shower in same place as bath was, nothing else had to be moved.

Thanks everyone. Just phoned Care UK for a rough estimate, said they would have to come out to access but would cost in the region of £4,000 to £6,000. Way too expensive.

Sally, was thinking of a bath lift as a last resort, dad likes a shower and struggles with a bath, mum prefers a bath, but didnt know you could get it free through the doctor. I will look into this. They havent moved in yet, so no immediate hurry, just looking around at options.

Thanks again
