Never ever just auto renew, there's no loyalty given to the customer any more, it's often cheaper to let your policy run out then renew with the same company, you then get an introductory discount.

hi peeps, i am with a well known firm D***** L**** and i have 2 cars. Both are quite old 02 and a 52. The combined monthly dd on a mulitple care is £34.00 per month.

I do have max no claims of something like 20 years but think this is the best deal I have ever been given. One is an 1100 and the other 1400.

I used to shop around each time the renewal came up but now seeing as noone else could beat them, i stick with them. Each renewal it never goes up more than £2.00 per month.

Florence in the hebrides.

There are various reasons why newer cars can often be cheaper to insure.

The vehicles themselves are safer for starters and people are statistically more likely to both look after them and drive more safely amongst other reasons.

I think anyone alive knows how car insurance works how the premiums are calculated. 2 years ago I swopped a five year old car for a new one worth five times as much, more power higher top speed etc. and the premium went down by 20%......

I am insured with a company which is named after a large grey animal found in Africa and India.

Got a quote for the "new" car of £350.07.

Daughter is insured with the same company so asked what I could get off as a multiple car discount and was put through to their associate company named after Horatio Nelson's naval rank.

"We can do it for £408.70" they said.
"Pardon" I replied. "We must have a bad line"
"£408.70" came back.
Me: "So a multiple car policy is actually £58 per year MORE expensive?"
"I'll double check for you, Sir"
They did check and yes, it's actually cheaper to insure the two cars separately!
