In the context of an SME ( small to middling enterprise ) recent BrightSolid losses are in no way sustainable. It is fairly obvious given the track record of new CEO Annelies van den Belt that there is going to be a major shake up a whole lot more drastic than changing the font and background colors.

Here is a skinny on the Annelies van den Belt who is very much a numbers person. Goodness knows what effect the Siberian winds will have on the somnolent staff of GRu and FMP.

"In its most recent results, brightsolid reported a slight fall in turnover to £26.3m from £28.4m and an operating loss in the year to the end of March 2012 of £2.2m compared with a profit in the previous 12 months of £1.3m. "

Oh dear :-( :-( Thanks very much for that background, Rollo.

I always try to look for sites where those managing are keen amateurs. Some of the early stuff like IGI and FreeBMD was brilliant really in its time. You felt that the people helping you really cared and shared your pastime :-)

Been in too many businesses run by number crunchers. No fun, and ultimately nobody seems to prosper (customers or staff) except number crunchers themselves :-(

There are maybe 100 people posting here regularly, more on quizzes and then the genealogy boards - being generous maybe 1 000 posters. I'd hazard a guess that most of them are on basic sub.

Let's see, getting my thumbs and toes together it works out that at £ 15 p.a. that is £ 15 000 per annum. Software development costs are north of £ 100 /hr. So the boards and basic members are unlikely to pass the badger test. Google derived ad revenue is not so hot.

That leaves the full cream with records and such.
All I can see is an offer to migrate to FMP and the boards no where.

Interesting thought that Rollo,
wonder if there IS a record of reasonably regular/frequent users
