my lovely OH was in arguably the top Welsh choir - Pendyrus - and they toured Australia extensively sponsored by Sydney Festival of Music - they were hosted right across Oz - from Sydney to Perth - had a fab time and of course were loved by all the ex pats over there

My apologies Mersey, I didn't see your post :-( Put it down to my slow typing :-)

kandj, the choir practices weekly but the main commitment is in travel. WA which occupies one third of Australia, only has four Bishops. Their respective Diocese are massive. and the Parishes many, and far-flung yet over the years the Choir has visited nearly all of them except Esperance, and they will be going there in March.

It's a good day's travel to Esperance which is over 700 kms away.

Yeas, AnnC, I do agree with you

and he does seem to be a nice pope this time round - a man of the people it seems

What an honour and so nice to be blessed and recognized after hours of commitment and practice, just so pleased to hear happy news..... thank you for sharing.

Thanks, AnnC.

Although not a Catholic myself, I can quite understand what the gesture means.

Being a Catholic is not a pre-requisite for Choir membership, and it does have a number of non-Catholics within its ranks.

As some of you are aware, my Oh sings with the local Diocesan Liturgical Choir.

This year the Choir celebrates the twentieth anniversary of its foundation.

A special mass was held last night at the Catholic Cathedral to mark the occasion. The Bishop was unable to be there (no bad thing as he is not very popular) so the Mass was conducted by the Vicar General (who is liked is very popular)

Towards the end of the Mass, when the Choir proceeded to the altar to be blessed, Fr Tony (the VG) firstly read out a letter from the Bishop, and then, to everyone's astonishment and delight, read out a blessing that the Choir had received from the Pope.

The official document was very impressive and signed personally by Pope Francis.

I know that people bandy about the fact that the pope has given his blessings etc, but this is the first time that I have both heard and seen it.

To say that the Choir were overwhelmed would be an understatement

:-)
